Finnish band Finntroll has been known for years as one of the world’s best folk metal formations. They play a combination of extreme metal and Finnish polka, which is also called Humppa. With this eccentric style, the band manages to combine fast-paced, happy sing-a-longs with ruthless black metal riffs.
Their seventh album, “Vredesvävd” (2020), was released exactly seven years after its predecessor “Blodsvept”. That’s not that strange, as these metal trolls don’t come out of their caves until they’ve got something worth sharing. It’s yet another album of epic proportions, on which cinematic intros lead into the kind of brutal black metal we expect from Finntroll. Their frivolous party tunes have always had a sinister edge to them, but on this album the darkness is much more apparent, especially due to the prominent presence of front man Vreth, whose screeching vocals are more intense than ever. The most impressive aspect to “Vredesvävd” is that these influences are sublimely mixed into first-rate tracks.
Metsatöll from Estonia and Suotana from Finland are the support acts tonight. Both bands take inspiration from folklore and mythical sagas, just like Finntroll does. Prepare yourself for an explosive, melodious folk metal night in Doornroosje!
