Lysistrata is a trio of highly skilled musicians from the French town of Saintes. They describe their own sound as “post un peu tout”, and that sounds about right as it’s very hard to capture it with a simple genre tag. Math rock, post rock and noise are part of their DNA, at least.
With these ingredients, they manage to create hyper-energetic songs that work even better live than they do on record. Their enthusiasm and creativity is very catchy, too. The band is a well-oiled machine, possibly partly because the band doesn’t have a front man. Vocal duties are divided among all three.
You can definitely hear influences from bands like Fugazi, Sonic Youth and At the Drive-In, which shows they have great taste. They also manage to use these influences to create their irresistible, creative, sonic explosions. Lysistrata, named after a comedy of Aristoteles, is not only highly recommended to fans of the aforementioned bands, but also for anyone who loves exciting, intense guitar music.
