Norwegian power trio Kanaan excels at the psychedelic instrumental rock music that only Scandinavians seem to have mastered. The first two albums came out through the renowned El Paraiso Records label, but for the latest one they’ve moved to the Norwegian Jansen Records.
On the third album “Earthbound”, Kanaan have decided to try something new. The instrumental jazzy and psychedelic rock has turned a bit heavier, with heavier riffs and grooves setting the tone. There are many twists and turns with beautiful and soft passages, and excellent musicianship to boot. With this mix of kraut, jazz and psychedelia they’ve set a new benchmark for themselves. It also makes us especially curious about their live show.
The sound of Kungens Man from Sweden is rooted in the psychedelic drone rock tradition, yet adds elements to it from krautrock, shoegaze, noise rock and free jazz. Listening to their songs is like psychedelic intoxication, with mesmerizingly repetitive riffs, gloomy bass-lines and fuzzy guitar solos. Their latest album “Den nya skivan” is no different. It’s an extremely pleasant listen, but we especially want to hear it live on stage.
