Mary Ocher + Radio Hito
Extrapool and Doornroosje have decided to work together on a monthly series of eccentric, boundary-pushing, experimental and often surprisingly user-friendly, yet still unknown live music on the recurring night Onderstuur.
The experimental and politically engaged pop artist Mary Ocher is a familiar face for frequent Extrapool visitors. A few years back, she was there with a memorable cabaret-like set and now she is back with a brand-new show and two new albums to boot. These are accompanied by an essay about authoritarianism, unregulated technologic advancement, and the seemingly nearing end of humanity. But don’t be afraid, as Ocher’s concerts always leave room for levity and humour as well.
Poetry and catchy tunes on a Casio keyboard, that’s the best way to describe Radio Hito in short. Most of the attention will be drawn by Zen My Nguyen’s performance, however. The combination of poetic lyrics, her low voice (in Italian!) and an accessible instrument as backing, result in interesting contrasts between poppy and the abstract, between light and dark.
